The Rajya Sabha was on Wednesday adjourned for the day amid sloganeering by the opposition soon after it met after the lunch break.
The opposition MPs, particularly from the Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress, came near the Chair’s podium as soon as the House was reconvened and started shouting slogans against the government.
The Samajwadi Party members were agitating against the new criterion for reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes in university jobs.
The Trinamool members have been protesting against the alleged misuse of CBI by the Centre.
Amid the din, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju introduced a bill.
Deputy Chairman Harivansh also initiated the motion of thanks on the Presidents address to Parliament.
However, as the MPs continued to protest, the Chair adjourned the House for the day.
