Mangalore is in news again for the atrocities that are committed against Muslims. In Melanthabettu village, two men Abdul Rahiman and Muhammad Mustafa were on their way home at around 11.30 pm in a pick-up when 2 men passing by stopped them on suspicion of smuggling cows.
When they said they wee looking for a repair shop, the men based on mere suspicion called for their hindu extremist friends and assaulted the two Muslim men with iron rods.
Five people have been arrested and an FIR under sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 341 (wrongful restraint), 355 (assault), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 504 (insult), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code have been registered in connection with the incident.
Mangalore has been witnessing a steady increase in such cases even as authorities failed to take stringent action against such criminals.
