Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday spoke about the promises kept by Congress governments in different states and asserted that his party’s ambitious Nyay Yojana would jumpstart the economy when implemented.
“We told you we would bring MGNREGA and we did. We told you we would waive off farm loans, and we have. You can go and see for yourself in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh,” Gandhi said on the last day of campaigning in Solan, the town known for mushroom and tomato cultivation.
“We waived the loans of Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s nephew and brother. We have all the documents to prove it. But he (Chouhan) is lying to the people in Madhya Pradesh that farm loans were not waived off,” said Gandhi.
The Congress President was campaigning for his party’s candidate from Shimla, Colonel Dhani Ram Shandil. He was accompanied by former Himachal Pradesh Chief Ministers Virbhadra Singh and Bhupinder Singh Hooda and former Union Minister Anand Sharma.
Gandhi slammed the Modi government for its demonetisation decision, saying: “Demonetisation was one of the biggest blows to India’s economy but PM Modi does not realise his mistakes. He is always in his own world and does not listen to well-informed people.”
He said that Modi kept his entire Cabinet under lock and key at Race Course during demonetisation, a fact the Prime Minister’s SPG (Special Protection Group) members shared with him.
