Prime Minister Narendra Modi called in for a virtual meeting with state chief ministers of all states to address the rise in coronavirus cases in parts of India. While addressing he said, the cases Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab have spiked. Nearly 70 districts in the country have recorded a 150% positivity rate. He called “quick and decisive” steps to check the “emerging second peak”. “If we do not stop it here, then a condition for a nationwide outbreak may emerge,” he said. India has so far fought COVID successfully and hence confident that by taking appropriate measures which included prevention by testing and
increase in the number of vaccination centers, India can win the battle against COVID.
The prime minister said, RT PCR tests should make up for over 70% of overall coronavirus testing while noting that states like Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Odisha have been mostly dependent on antigen tests. With an increase in testing centres and vaccination centres, we will also reduce the wastage of vaccine, he said.
