Finish works in illegal colonies in 5 months: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has asked officials to complete development works in unauthorised colonies within five months, here on Saturday. He said this after reviewing development works at a meeting.

Kejriwal would monitor the developmental works on a weekly basis and had sought weekly report on the progress, the government said in a statement. The works included construction of roads, drains, lanes and laying of sewer lines.

Development works are continuing in 781 unauthorised colonies, spread across 20 Assemblies constituencies, like Burari, Matiala, Vikaspuri, Badli, Mundka, Kirari, Nangloi, Uttam Nagar, Najafgarh, Sangam Vihar, Okhla, Badarpur, Deoli, Rohtas Nagar, Gokulpuri, Bijwasan, Chattarpur, Karawal Nagar and Patparganj.

At the meeting, the Chief Minister was informed that the work was stopped because of the election code of conduct during the Lok Sabha elections.

Stating that residents of these colonies have the right to lead their lives with dignity, Kejriwal said, “The Delhi government has made a provision of Rs 1,500 crore in the budget for the development of these colonies.”
