BJP President Amit Shah on Friday ridiculed Congress President Rahul Gandhi for raising questions on the work done by the Narendra Modi government in the last five years and said the current regime is not accountable to Gandhi, but to the people of the country.
“Nowadays, ‘Rahul Baba’ is also roaming around. Why are you laughing (hearing his name)? He is a big leader of Congress,” Shah told the crowd in Bengal’s Alipurduar.
“Recently, he has started roaming the country and shouting, ‘Modi ji, what have you done in the last five years?’,” he said virtually mimicking Gandhi’s voice, evoking more laughter and cheers from his party activists.
Pointing out that they are not liable to give any explanation to Gandhi or his party, Shah said the fund allocated by the BJP government for Bengal in the last five years is more than thrice the fund provided by the Congress-led UPA government.
“Rahul Baba. You are asking us questions? You are asking for our report card in the last five years? We do not need to give you any explanation. I have come here to provide details of our work to the people of Alipurduar and Bengal because we are accountable only to them,” he said.
“The UPA government that was run by Sonia Gandhi-Manmohan Singh and supported by Mamata Banerjee, gave Rs. 1.32 lakh crore for Bengal’s development in five years while the Modi government has sent over Rs. 4.24 lakh crore in five years,” he added.
He also claimed that the money provided by the Modi regime for Bengal’s development did not reach the people here as it was looted by the goons of the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress.
